Mini Dental Implants

Dental implants are widely regarded as the most reliable and successful teeth replacement option. However, some patients do not qualify for traditional dental implants due to bone recession in the jaw, a result of the prolonged absence of teeth. For these individuals, mini dental implants can offer an excellent alternative solution. As an active member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Dr. Daniel P. Duggan is qualified to complete every step of the treatment process at our Bay Shore, NY, practice, serving West Islip and North Babylon.

Benefits of Mini Dental Implants

Like their conventional counterparts, mini dental implants are made from surgical-grade titanium and are available in a variety of lengths. However, mini implants are approximately half the diameter of standard implants. This means they require less bone tissue than traditional implants.

Mini implant placement is faster compared to traditional methods. While conventional treatment usually requires at least two surgeries over the course of several months, mini implants can generally be placed and restored in a single appointment. This gives patients immediate dental function, and they never have to be without teeth.

Exploring Candidacy

Mini dental implants are generally recommended for those who have experienced a small degree of jawbone recession and are either ineligible for bone grafting or do not wish to undergo additional surgery. They are an excellent option for those desiring a more permanent teeth replacement solution. Candidates should be in good general health. Additionally, those considering mini implants should be free from gum disease, extensive tooth decay, and other oral health problems. During a consultation, we can determine whether you qualify for this type of treatment.

About the Procedure

When you arrive for your mini implant surgery, you will be escorted to one of our comfortable treatment rooms. Local anesthesia is administered to numb the gums and surrounding tissues. Patients who are feeling anxious – or who simply want a more comfortable dental experience – can opt for nitrous oxide sedation.

Using your x-rays and scans for reference and guidance, your dentist uses special instruments to gently insert the mini implants into the jawbone. Next, a temporary restoration is attached to the implants. Most patients can enjoy a beautiful, fully functional smile as soon as they leave our office. Once the mini implants have fully integrated with the jaw - usually after about three to six months - we can begin creating your permanent restoration.

Because each patient is unique, the cost of treatment can vary significantly. At Duggan Dental Group, we offer CareCredit® financing so patients can afford the treatment they need.
